The on-air promotions I designed for Nick Jr. and Nickelodeon children’s shows were so much fun. After reviewing the producer’s scripts and receiving any parameters from the creative director, I would pull relevant assets from a show’s style guide, create new graphic elements as needed, add a big, bold dose of custom typography, and put it all together in unique ways to fit the theme of the particular episode or event. Then I’d hand off my graphics and storyboard so the animator could work their magic.
Below are frames from some of my favorite packages.
design, storyboarding
A tall and narrow vintage-inspired magician “poster” was created for a special week of Dora the Explorer episodes. The art was then animated and panned down on to create a three-part tune-in for the promos. Aired on Nick Jr.
For an episode of The Backyardigans where the characters dress as clowns and search for a circus to perform in. Aired on Nick Jr.
For a week of Max and Ruby episodes inspired by classic fairytales. Aired on Nickelodeon.
For a weeklong event of special Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! episodes featuring the voice of Beyoncé, culminating with an hour-long movie that aired on both Noggin and Nickelodeon, Wubb Idol.
Season two of Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! introduced a new character named Daizy. Birdy Bird, occasionally jumping with excitement, reads the information about the new episodes as it swipes across the screen. Aired on Nick Jr.
For a premiere week of new and wild episodes of Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! Extra decorative typography gave the animator opportunities to go a little wild. Aired on Nick Jr.
